HULU TERENGGANU, Nov 8 — A nine-year-old girl, Tuan Nor Farah Amira Tuan Harun, drowned after she had gone to play along the banks of Terengganu River with her sister and three cousins in Kampung Getang, Telemong, here, yesterday.
The victim’s mother, Tengku Rubiah Tengku Ngah, 46, said she was at a relative’s wedding in Lubuk Periuk when the incident happened, and had always warned her children not to play in the river, especially during the rainy season.
Nor Farah’s body was found by villagers at 3.45pm not far from where she was said to have drowned.
Nor Sofea, the victim’s elder sister, said she had jumped into the river when she saw her younger sister struggling in the water. She managed to grab hold of her sister’s hair but lost her grip beforeNor Farah went under.
The Year Three pupil of SK Getang was buried last night at the village cemetery.
The tragedy caught the attention of Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek who visited the grieving family at their home and handed over a personal contribution. — Bernama
